16th Century Orienteering - The City of London
This is a collection of downloadable PDF materials. These can be printed out and used to support an historical orienteering exercise around the Bishopsgate / Gracechurch Street area of the City of London, UK.
For one person to find all 16 locations should take about two hours. If being done in groups, and dividing up the locations, it could be done in less time.
The Crosse Keys pub in Gracechurch Street is marked on the map, and could be used as a base or final meeting place if being done with group of people.

THE MAP
This is taken from a section of the 16th century Agas Map. It shows the part of London around Gracechurch Street, south of Liverpool Street Station, the position of which is also marked on the map. On the map there are rings with letters in them, marking the various areas that you have to find and go to. These places can be found in any order you wish.
THE QUIZ SHEETS
These show what certain items in the rings on the map look like. These are the things you have to find. The photographs have empty circles of them, to which you have to add the appropriate matching letter from the various marked map positions.
EXTRA CLUES SHEET
This sheet gives extra information about the things in the photographs that you are trying to find, if you need them.
-----------------------------------------------------------------
You have to find and identify as many of the places shown in the photographs on the QUIZ SHEETS as you can in the allotted time.
THE ANSWER CHECK SHEET contains all the photographs of places to find, with the correct matching letters attached. If you are going to do the orienteering task yourself, be careful not to look at it before you do the task. If you are organising the orienteering for a group, it could be handed out at the end, so people can check their own answers.
